About Lake Zahl National Wildlife Refuge

Lake Zahl National Wildlife Refuge encompasses 3,219 acres of fee title land and 604 acres in easements. The refuge contains two large wetland pools totaling 1,266 acres and 350 acres of seasonal wetlands. Upland habitat includes more than 1,200 acres of native prairie grassland, in addition to 400 acres of land seeded with tame grass.

How to Get There

The Refuge is located in Williams County approximately 30 miles north of Williston. From Williston, drive 30 miles north on Highway 85, then turn west onto Highway 50. Highway 50 divides the Refuge and the kiosk is located on the north side of Highway 50, approximately 2.5 miles west of the intersection.
