About FISH CREEK GROUP USE

Overview Fish Creek Group Camp is located a few miles from the developed Fish Creek Campground. The primitive group site is a horse-friendly camp that can accommodate up to 75 people. It is also known as "Eagle's Nest," "Girl Scout Camp" and "Fish Creek Dispersed Site."Recreation The Fish Creek Cross Country Trail begins at nearby Fish Creek Campground. This 7-mile multi-use loop is open to hikers, mountain bikers, horseback riders and off-road vehicle enthusiasts, and offers scenic views of Gospel Mountain, Pilot Rock and Buffalo Hump.Facilities The group site can accommodate up to 75 people and 20 vehicles. The site has two vault toilets, several picnic tables and rock fire rings. The site can accommodate approx. 5 campers and has a lot of room for tent camping. When the group site is reserved, the entire loop is reserved therefore other members of the public are not permitted to camp, recreate or ride off-road vehicles in the area or on the entrance / exit road. If you or someone in your group has reserved the site, please kindly inform other individuals of the public that the area is reserved if individuals come onto the site. There are two reservation plaques displayed each time there is a reservation. One plaque is located at the beginning of the road to the site, located off the 2000 road. A second reserved plaque is posted on the info board near the first vault toilet.Natural Features The group site is laid out in a large, flat area beneath tall pines within the Nez Perce National Forest in the heart of north central Idaho. The forest is comprised of rugged peaks, deep canyons, dense forests and remote wilderness. Due in large part to dramatic elevational differences, the forest supports a wide variety of vegetation, from cedar groves to desert ecosystems. Drive 8 miles south of Grangeville, Idaho on the Grangeville Salmon Road (Forest Road 221). Drive past the Fish Creek Campground and take the first right onto Forest Road 2000. Drive about 1/2 mile and take the second left (Look for the Campground Sign).
