About Cowboy Camp Equestrian Campground and Wildlife Viewing Area

Secluded within a hilly expanse of oak woodlands, grasslands, and chaparral, you can find Cowboy Camp. Cowboy Camp is a recreation site comprised of a day use area (complete with a wildlife viewing deck), an overnight parking area, and a group camp site. 27 individual horse camp sites make up the group camp site. The group camp site has parking for fire pits, parking for horse trailers, and access to four vault toilets (two are located in the upper parking area and two are located in the middle of the group camp site). Drinking water and electricity are not available at the group camp site. Please practice Leave No Trace and Tread Lightly principles to recreate responsibly on your public lands. Target shooting is not permitted at this recreation site. Cowboy Camp's group camp site is open to vehicles and horses from the 3rd Saturday in April through the 3rd Saturday in November.

How to Get There

From Ukiah: Travel 64.9 miles on State Highway 20 east to CA-16 east. Follow CA-16 east for about a mile, and Cowboy Camp will be on your right. From Sacramento: Travel 58.3 miles on I-5 north to CA-20 W/ State Highway 20 west in Williams. Take exit 578 from I-5 north. Follow CA-20 W/ State Highway 20 west for 19.8 miles. Take a left (east) onto CA-16 east. Follow CA-16 east for about a mile, and Cowboy Camp will be on your right.
